Only have a weekend in Ogliastra? In three days, you can experience the best of this region, from its mountains to the sea: the coves of the Baunei Coast, the inland landscapes by train, and a trek among the rocks of the Supramonte. Here’s how to plan it.

Day 1: The Baunei Coast by sea

White pebbles, fine sand, rock arches and sheer cliffs line this 40-kilometre stretch of coast: Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine, Piscine di Venere, Cala Biriàla, Cala Luna and Cala Goloritzè are among Sardinia's most famous beaches.

A boat trip is the most convenient way to see several of them in one day: for a private tour, there's Luuxya Charter, which departs from Santa Maria Navarrese. You can find other options among the sea excursions in Ogliastra.

Day 2: By train between sea and mountains

The Trenino Verde (Little Green Train), in operation for about 130 years, takes you deep into the island's most characteristic landscapes. The Arbatax–Gairo route starts from the sea at Arbatax and climbs towards the mountains, passing through villages and nature.

Good to know: check the official website for timetables and service days before your trip.

Day 3: Trekking to the Gorropu Canyon

For adventure lovers, the Gorropu Canyon is a gorge 1.5 kilometres long, up to 500 metres deep, and about 4 metres wide at the bottom. There are routes of varying difficulty, some of which are very demanding. According to a local belief, the canyon is inhabited by Sa Tentassione, the Devil.
