Il Golfetto Beach
Il Golfetto Beach
On the island's east coast, near the towns of Tortolì and Arbatax, lies a vast, 16km stretch of sandy paradise known as Lido di Orrì. This long shoreline is dotted with numerous small bays and coves. Among them is a true gem: Il Golfetto beach – also known as Muscì or Cala Ginepro. It is celebrated for its crystal-clear water, which is always clean and shimmers in shades from azure to emerald green and even deep indigo. Its shallow seabed makes it perfect for families with young children and anyone seeking peace and relaxation, while the flat rocks that emerge from the water add to its unique charm.
Beach Features
Often described as having a magical beauty, the beach is framed by lush Mediterranean scrub. It's also a wonderful spot for snorkelling, allowing you to admire the fish that swim among the rocks.
What Services are Available at Il Golfetto Beach?
In this corner of paradise, you can rent beach equipment such as umbrellas, sun loungers, pedalos, canoes, and jet skis. Nearby, you'll find bars, restaurants, and refreshment stands. One of the beach's convenient features is the large car park available on arrival. There are many restaurants and hotels in the vicinity; as a tourist area, it is well-equipped with everything visitors might need to make their stay in the Ogliastra region as special as possible.
How to Get to Il Golfetto Beach
To reach Tortolì from Olbia, take the SS 125 towards Siniscola, then follow the signs for the new road to Nuoro. From there, head towards the aforementioned town. From Cagliari, take the SS 125 towards Muravera, passing through several towns and villages, and again, proceed towards Tortolì. Once you arrive, follow the very clear signs for the Lido. Continue straight on, passing the first beaches of the Lido. When you see a large rock with a sign for “Bar – Il Golfetto”, turn down the unpaved road and head to the large car park that overlooks the beach. Arriving at your destination always inspires a feeling of wonder mixed with joyful tranquillity.
What to See Nearby
There are many gems to discover in the vicinity. The area is home to a complex nuraghe, the remains of another, a domus de janas, a giants' tomb, some interesting ancient huts, a wall, and a menhir. Another beautiful spot is Foxilioni, a strip of sand that is also part of Lido di Orrì. Its shallow, sandy seabed makes it a beloved beach, suitable for everyone. Another of Ogliastra's most stunning jewels can be found in Arbatax: the Rocce Rosse (Red Rocks). Considered the symbol of this fishing village and a key monument for the entire Ogliastra region, this cathedral-like formation of red porphyry appears to rise directly from the crystal-clear waters and surrounding granite cliffs.
What People Say About Il Golfetto Beach
The beach is often described as small, a feature that many visitors appreciate. Some call it, without exaggeration, a spectacular place, perfect for young children and, importantly, not too crowded. Another review highlights how this shoreline—whose strengths are its calm and serenity—"regenerates not only the mind but also the body". Last but not least, this cove is said to evoke a dual emotion: on the one hand, a sense of the wild, with powerful waves crashing against the rocks and shore; on the other, an intimate peace that brings a profound sense of calm.
