Cea Beach
On Sardinia’s east coast, about twelve kilometres from Tortolì and seven from Bari Sardo, lies one of Ogliastra’s best-loved beaches. Cea Beach, shared between the two municipalities, is known for its soft sand, clear water and distinctive red sea stacks, as well as the range of services available nearby.
What Cea Beach is like
The sand is very fine and soft underfoot. The seabed stays shallow for some distance, making the beach suitable for families with young children and for anyone who simply wants to relax in the water. In sunshine, the sea shifts from turquoise to bright blue, while the scent of juniper adds to the Mediterranean atmosphere.
The Cea sea stacks
Known locally as Is Scoglius Arrubius, the two red porphyry sea stacks are the symbol of Cea. Rising to around 20 metres about 300 metres offshore, they stand out clearly against the turquoise water and are among the most photographed landmarks on this stretch of coast, especially around sunset.
Beach services
One reason Cea is so popular is the range of seasonal services available around the beach. These can include places to eat and drink, beach equipment rental, pedal boats and canoes. Access walkways make parts of the beach easier to reach for visitors with reduced mobility. There are also camping and camper facilities nearby, along with parking and a wide choice of accommodation, restaurants and other services in the surrounding area.
How to get to Cea Beach
To reach Cea, follow the SS125 towards Tortolì. From Tortolì, follow signs for Lido di Orrì and continue towards Cea after Il Golfetto, also known as Cala Ginepro. Alternatively, approach from Bari Sardo and follow the signs for the coastal beaches for roughly five kilometres.
What to see nearby
Several worthwhile stops lie close to Cea Beach. The Rocce Rosse in Arbatax are one of Ogliastra’s best-known natural landmarks, with striking red porphyry rising beside the sea. Nearby you can also visit Cala Moresca, a small scenic cove, and Cala Ginepro, another attractive stretch of pale sand and clear water.
