Laveria Lamarmora

Laveria Lamarmora is one of the most iconic sites of the Iglesiente mining landscape. The stone structures of the old Nebida ore-washing plant descend towards the sea, with views across to Pan di Zucchero and the coast of Masua.

The ore-washing plant by the sea

Built in the late 19th century, the plant was used to process ore extracted around Nebida. Its surviving structures now create one of Sardinia’s most dramatic industrial landscapes.

The Nebida viewpoint

A panoramic path from the village looks down over the ruins and the coast. It is one of the easiest ways to understand the close relationship between mining and the sea without committing to a demanding hike.

Industrial archaeology

Buildings, furnaces, tunnels and mining villages tell the story of a crucial phase in the economic history of south-west Sardinia. Laveria Lamarmora forms part of the wider Geo-Mining Park heritage network.

Pan di Zucchero and Masua

The view links directly with Pan di Zucchero and Porto Flavia. All three attractions are in the same area, although Porto Flavia requires a scheduled visit and should be planned in advance.

Nebida on a west-coast itinerary

In the Trip Planner, Laveria Lamarmora is a strong stop on the coast between Buggerru and Iglesias. Late afternoon is particularly rewarding, when the light brings out the textures of the ruins and cliffs.
