Hamlet of Iglesias

Masua

Masua is a small coastal settlement in the municipality of Iglesias, overlooking one of the most dramatic landscapes of the Iglesiente. Pan di Zucchero, abandoned mining structures and Porto Flavia bring natural scenery and industrial archaeology together in one place.

The mining village by the sea

Masua developed in close connection with mining. Today the small settlement and former industrial structures sit within a landscape of limestone cliffs and open sea.

Porto Flavia

This remarkable mining facility was carved into the cliff in the 1920s to load ore directly onto ships. Its main tunnel extends for hundreds of metres and ends in an opening high above the sea.

Pan di Zucchero

Just offshore rises Pan di Zucchero, a spectacular sea stack more than 100 metres high and already featured elsewhere on Life in Sardegna. It is the constant visual landmark of the Masua coastline.

Beaches and coastline

Masua has small beaches and sea access points in a landscape dominated by cliffs. Sea conditions should always be taken into account, especially when the mistral is blowing.

How to include Masua in your trip

Masua should be treated as a major stop together with Porto Flavia and Pan di Zucchero. Nebida and Iglesias complete the itinerary naturally, without the need to add distant destinations.
