Town

Posada

Posada is one of the most recognisable medieval villages in north-east Sardinia, built on a hill crowned by Castello della Fava. Below the village stretch the river, wetlands and a coastline of long sandy beaches.

The medieval village

Posada's historic centre climbs the hillside through a maze of lanes, steps, arches and tightly packed houses. As you walk towards the upper part of the village, views open across the coastal plain and the sea, making the old town itself one of the highlights of the visit.

Castello della Fava

Castello della Fava dominates the village and surrounding landscape. From the tower and fortified area, views extend over the Rio Posada, countryside and coast. The castle is the main symbol of the town and reflects the strategic importance this hill once held in controlling Sardinia's eastern coastline.

Rio Posada and Tepilora Park

The area is closely connected to the natural system of the Rio Posada and Tepilora Park, recognised for its river, forest and mountain environments. This makes it easy to combine a visit to the medieval village with outdoor activities and nature itineraries.

The beaches

The coast is only a short drive from the village, including San Giovanni di Posada and other long beaches of the Baronia area. The landscape is defined by the contrast between sea, river and wetlands, with large stretches that remain relatively undeveloped.

Posada in a north-east Sardinia itinerary

Posada fits naturally into a route between San Teodoro, Siniscola, Orosei and inland Baronia. Its combination of historic village and coast makes it suitable both for a day trip and for a longer stay focused on north-east Sardinia.

How to plan your visit

The village and castle can easily be visited in the same half-day, leaving time for the beach or an excursion around the Rio Posada. Posada is especially suitable for travellers driving along the east coast who want a cultural stop between seaside destinations.
