Punta Molentis

Punta Molentis: an iconic beach near Villasimius

Punta Molentis is one of the most recognisable beaches along the south-eastern coast of Sardinia, between Villasimius and Castiadas. Pale sand, clear sea and Mediterranean vegetation create a postcard-like setting along the scenic coastal road.

Colours between sea and land

Punta Molentis is known for vivid contrasts: turquoise water, bright sand, pinkish tones near the shoreline and green Mediterranean vegetation. The name is linked to “su molenti”, the donkey once used to transport granite from nearby quarries.

The coastline is divided into several small sections, each with its own character. Granite rocks and Mediterranean plants create especially scenic views, particularly in softer morning or evening light.

Services and activities

When the sea is calm, the shallow sandy seabed is suitable for swimming and families, while rocky areas can be interesting for snorkelling. Seasonal refreshment and beach services may be available, subject to current regulations.

Villasimius and the surrounding coast

Villasimius offers a dense concentration of beaches and protected coastal landscapes around Capo Carbonara. Punta Molentis is one of the strongest nature-focused stops in the area and can be combined with other local attractions over more than one day.

Access to Punta Molentis may be regulated during the main season, with visitor limits or booking requirements. Check official local information before travelling.
