Cala Pira

Cala Pira: a scenic bay in south-east Sardinia

Cala Pira, in the municipality of Castiadas, is one of the most scenic bays in south-eastern Sardinia. Fine pale sand, turquoise water and pink-grey granite create a bright coastal landscape backed by Mediterranean vegetation.

A sea of colour

A sheltered bay

Cala Pira extends for roughly 400 metres, with pale sand meeting turquoise and emerald water. Granite headlands frame the bay and help create its distinctive setting.

Mediterranean vegetation

Junipers and coastal plants grow around the dunes and surrounding slopes. These are fragile habitats and should be protected by using designated paths.

History and nature at Cala Pira

The coastal tower

A historic watchtower stands on the headland north of the beach and offers wide views over the bay and towards Serpentara. It adds a cultural landmark to the natural scenery.

Sea and wildlife

The shape of the bay often creates relatively sheltered conditions, making it popular with families and snorkellers when the sea is calm.
