Town
Muravera
Muravera is the main town of the Sarrabus area, positioned between the Flumendosa valley, coastal lagoons and a long stretch of shoreline that includes part of Costa Rei and Capo Ferrato.
The main town of the Sarrabus
Muravera is an important service centre for south-east Sardinia and retains a strong agricultural identity. Citrus groves and cultivated countryside surround the town, while its streets host shops, markets and everyday local life.
Costa Rei and the coastline
The municipality includes a wide stretch of coast characterised by sandy beaches, dunes and clear water. Costa Rei is the best-known resort, but the territory continues towards wilder areas such as Capo Ferrato, Porto Pirastu and other small coves.
Lagoons and nature
Behind the beaches are ponds and lagoons visited by numerous bird species, including flamingos. These wetlands, together with inland forests and the mouth of the Flumendosa, make Muravera appealing for nature itineraries and cycling as well as beach holidays.
Citrus fruit and the Sagra degli Agrumi
Citrus fruit is one of Muravera's symbols. Oranges, lemons and mandarins shape the agricultural landscape and are celebrated during the Sagra degli Agrumi, one of the best-known events in the Sarrabus, with parades, local produce and popular traditions.
Muravera and the surrounding area
Castiadas, Villasimius and the inland Sarrabus-Gerrei area are all within easy reach. Muravera is a useful base for travellers spending several days on the south-east coast without limiting the trip to a single seaside resort.
