S'Archittu
S'Archittu is a natural limestone arch overlooking the sea in the territory of Cuglieri, on Sardinia's central-western coast. Sculpted by erosion and easy to reach from the small seaside village, it is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the Oristano area.
The natural arch
The sea and weather have shaped the limestone cliff into a large opening above the water. The arch is the best-known feature, but the whole stretch of coast reveals eroded rock formations, rocky platforms and small coves.
The coastal walk
From the village of S'Archittu, a pedestrian path follows the coast towards the arch. It is a short, relatively easy walk compared with many of Sardinia's hiking routes, making it a convenient stop on a road trip along the west coast.
Sunset and photography
Its west-facing position makes S'Archittu especially atmospheric in the evening. Sunset light brings out the shapes of the rock and creates one of the best moments to enjoy the landscape, even without heading down to the beach.
Sea conditions and safety
The rocky platforms can be slippery and the sea can become rough. Avoid risky jumps or imitating dangerous behaviour, and always assess conditions carefully. S'Archittu is worth visiting for its scenery alone.
Cuglieri and the west coast
S'Archittu combines easily with Cuglieri and other coastal stops around Montiferru and the Sinis area. It is a useful break between Bosa and Oristano, adding a distinctive natural landmark without a major detour.
