Poetto Beach: Cagliari’s city beach
Poetto Beach is the main beach of Cagliari, extending for several kilometres between the city and Quartu Sant’Elena. It combines the convenience of an urban beach with open sea, a long promenade and easy access to the Molentargius wetlands.
A long stretch of coast
History and change
Poetto developed during the 20th century into the main seaside area for Cagliari residents, with beach establishments, kiosks and a growing promenade connecting the city to the coast.
Beach and promenade
The long sandy shoreline and generally shallow water near the shore make Poetto suitable for swimming, families and long walks. The seafront is also popular for running, cycling and evening strolls.
A beach for everyone
Activities and services
Poetto has extensive seasonal services, beach clubs, water-sports options and places to eat and drink. In summer it also becomes one of the city’s main social and evening areas.
Nature beside the city
Immediately behind the beach lies the Molentargius-Saline Regional Park, an important wetland known for flamingos and other birdlife. Walking and cycling routes make it easy to combine the coast with nature.
Why visit Poetto
Poetto is the easiest beach to combine with a stay in Cagliari, offering sea, services and outdoor activities without leaving the city area.
