Maria Pia
Maria Pia is one of Alghero’s most popular beaches, located north of the city along the coast towards Fertilia. Pale sand, dunes and junipers create a surprisingly natural setting close to the urban area.
The beach
The beach is long and sandy, with generally shallow water near the shore. Its proximity to Alghero makes it especially convenient for travellers who do not want long drives.
Dunes and junipers
The defining feature of Maria Pia is its dune system covered with junipers and coastal vegetation. Boardwalks and designated access points should be respected to protect this fragile environment.
The pine forest
A pine forest behind the beach provides shade and follows the shoreline. The contrast between sand, trees and sea also makes Maria Pia pleasant for walks outside the main summer season.
Close to Alghero’s historic centre
The beach is easy to reach from central Alghero and can be included in a day focused on the city. It works well for combining a few hours by the sea with the old town and seafront bastions.
Beaches of the Riviera del Corallo
Further north are Le Bombarde, Lazzaretto and Porto Conte. On a multi-day stay, dedicate one day to Maria Pia and another to the more distant beaches rather than constantly changing locations.
