Town

Sanluri

Sanluri is a town in the Medio Campidano that developed around an important medieval castle and a strategic position on the route between Cagliari and Oristano.

Sanluri Castle

The town's best-known monument is its castle, a medieval fortress linked to the long conflict between the Giudicato of Arborea and the Crown of Aragon. It is one of Sardinia's best-preserved castles and today houses museum collections and historic rooms. The fortress still defines the identity of the town.

Historic centre

The oldest part of Sanluri developed around the castle, with streets and squares that preserve the memory of the fortified town. The parish church of Nostra Signora delle Grazie and other historic churches complete an urban itinerary that is easy to explore on foot.

Sa Battalla and medieval history

Sanluri is closely associated with the battle of 1409, a decisive episode in the conflict between Arborea and Aragon. The historical re-enactment known as Sa Battalla keeps this memory alive and helps explain the town's strategic role in medieval Sardinia.

Traditions and local products

The agricultural landscape of the Campidano has always played an important role in the local economy. One of the most representative products is civraxu, a durum-wheat semolina bread rooted in domestic tradition. Festivals and cultural events take place throughout the year.

Sanluri as a stop in southern Sardinia

Its position on Sardinia's main road axis makes Sanluri easy to include in an itinerary between Cagliari, Oristano and the Marmilla. Nearby are other villages, archaeological sites and the agricultural landscapes of the Medio Campidano.
