Hamlet of Olbia
Porto Rotondo
Porto Rotondo is a seaside resort in the municipality of Olbia, set around a natural inlet in north-eastern Gallura. It is known for its marina, well-kept squares, Mediterranean architecture and easy access to numerous beaches between Olbia and Golfo Aranci.
The centre and its squares
Porto Rotondo was designed as a small seaside village, with pedestrian areas, squares, passageways and buildings grouped around the harbour. It is easy to explore on foot, and the walk between the marina, centre and seafront is part of the experience.
One of its most distinctive landmarks is the Church of San Lorenzo, integrated into the urban fabric and known for its rich decorative interior. The squares and streets become especially lively on summer evenings.
The marina
The marina is the heart of Porto Rotondo and one of the main harbours on Sardinia's north-eastern coast. Walking along the quays highlights the resort's close relationship with sailing and boating, while the harbour is also a departure point for excursions along the coast and towards the islands.
Beaches nearby
The surrounding area offers numerous beaches and small bays. Ira, Sassi and Marinella are among the best known, while Golfo Aranci and other beaches in the Olbia area are only a short drive away. In summer, it is best to choose just a few stops and check access and parking in advance.
Porto Rotondo is well suited to travellers who want to stay close to the sea while still having restaurants, services and evening life within easy reach.
Olbia and Golfo Aranci
Porto Rotondo fits easily into a wider itinerary. Olbia offers a historic centre, harbour and major transport links, while Golfo Aranci adds a seafront promenade, beaches and the landscape of Capo Figari. Short distances make it possible to plan varied days without long transfers.
Best time to visit
From June to September Porto Rotondo is at its liveliest and most tourism-focused. May and October are appealing for travellers who prefer beaches, walks and a quieter atmosphere. On a road trip through north-east Sardinia, Porto Rotondo can also work well as a stop of a few hours between Olbia, Golfo Aranci and the Costa Smeralda.
