Town
Macomer
Macomer is one of the main centres of the Marghine and occupies a strategic position in the heart of Sardinia. The surrounding territory is rich in nuraghi, Giants’ Tombs, domus de janas and basalt landscapes, while the town acts as a natural link between northern, central and western Sardinia.
A crossroads in central Sardinia
Macomer’s position has long encouraged connections and trade. Roads and railways still make it an important transport hub, but the surrounding area also deserves to be explored as a destination in its own right.
Archaeology across the landscape
Nuraghi, tombs and other monuments are scattered through the countryside around the town. This concentration makes it possible to build an archaeological itinerary without covering long distances.
Tamuli
Tamuli Archaeological Park, already featured on the portal, is one of the main sites: a nuraghe, Giants’ Tombs and distinctive betyl stones stand within the open landscape of the Marghine.
Landscapes of the Marghine
Basalt formations, pasture and plateaus characterise the surrounding environment. Spring and autumn are particularly suitable for exploring the area and its open-air archaeological sites.
In the Trip Planner
Macomer should be used mainly as a cultural hub for Tamuli and other archaeological sites, or as a logical stop between the Oristano area, Nuoro province and north-west Sardinia.
