Town
Calangianus
Calangianus is one of the Sardinian towns most closely associated with cork production. At the foot of Monte Limbara, it offers an introduction to inland Gallura through forests, craftsmanship, granite architecture and small historic towns.
The town and its granite architecture
The centre preserves stone buildings, churches and views typical of Alta Gallura. A visit can be relatively short, but becomes more rewarding when included in a wider itinerary through the inland towns of the region.
The culture of cork
Cork processing has profoundly shaped the local economy and identity. Museums, businesses and industrial heritage tell the story of an activity that remains important to the area today.
Forests and Monte Limbara
Calangianus offers easy access to the Limbara massif, with cork-oak woods, hiking trails and panoramic roads. It is a good starting point for combining local culture with time in nature.
Luras and Tempio Pausania
Luras and Tempio Pausania are only a few kilometres away. Together with Calangianus, they form one of the most natural itineraries for a day dedicated to inland Gallura.
A different side of Sardinia
In the Trip Planner, Calangianus is most useful when travellers choose villages, traditions or nature. It should be included when the itinerary is intended to show a side of Sardinia beyond the coast, not simply because it is nearby.
