Monte Limbara
Monte Limbara is the mountain massif that defines Alta Gallura, rising behind Tempio Pausania and Calangianus. Forests, granite formations, springs and panoramic viewpoints make it one of the most important natural areas in northern Sardinia.
The granite massif
Limbara rises above 1,000 metres and offers a landscape very different from the Gallura coast. Granite, woodland and open clearings change quickly with altitude.
Hiking trails
The mountain is crossed by routes of varying difficulty. Some suit easy walks, while others require better fitness, navigation skills and favourable weather conditions.
Forests and springs
The wooded areas provide shade and cooler temperatures in summer, making Monte Limbara a useful alternative to the hottest hours on the coast.
Views across Gallura
From the higher viewpoints, wide panoramas open over inland Gallura and, on clear days, towards the coast. The landscape gives a particularly good sense of the region’s geography.
Tempio Pausania and Calangianus
These two towns are the natural bases for reaching the massif. In the Trip Planner, Monte Limbara should be paired with one Alta Gallura town rather than squeezed into a day with too many other stops.
