Town
Aggius
Aggius is a village in Alta Gallura surrounded by large granite formations. Its stone-built historic centre, museums dedicated to local culture and nearby Valle della Luna make it one of the most interesting inland stops in Gallura.
The village
Granite houses, narrow streets and small squares form a compact centre that is easy to explore on foot. The architecture reflects the traditional use of local stone and preserves a character very different from the coastal resorts.
Museums and traditions
Aggius is known for museums dedicated to everyday life, weaving and the history of the territory. They offer a useful introduction to Gallura's identity and are especially worthwhile on days not centred on the beach.
Valle della Luna
Just outside the village lies Valle della Luna, also known as the Piana dei Grandi Sassi: a landscape of enormous granite boulders, grazing land and Mediterranean scrub shaped by erosion.
An Alta Gallura itinerary
Aggius combines easily with Tempio Pausania, Luras and Calangianus. Short distances make it possible to dedicate a full day to inland villages and landscapes without turning the itinerary into a constant sequence of transfers.
When to visit
Spring and autumn are ideal for walking and exploring the granite landscape. In summer, Aggius can provide a cooler inland break from the coast and a good alternative during the hottest beach hours.
