Su Gologone

Su Gologone is a spectacular karst spring in the territory of Oliena, at the foot of the Supramonte. Water emerges from a deep fissure in the limestone to form an intensely coloured resurgence, protected as a regional natural monument.

The karst spring

The water at Su Gologone comes from the vast underground karst system of the Supramonte and resurfaces between limestone walls in a deep pool of green and blue. Cave divers have explored the submerged system to great depths, but its full extent remains unknown.

A natural monument

The spring was designated a regional natural monument in 1998. Beyond its scenic value, it is important to the local water system and feeds the Cedrino river basin.

The landscape around Su Gologone

Surrounded by vegetation, the spring is an ideal gateway to the Supramonte of Oliena. Nearby are the Lanaitho valley, caves and archaeological sites, making the area particularly rewarding for nature and cultural excursions.

Oliena and the Supramonte

Su Gologone can be combined with Oliena, Monte Corrasi and other places in the valley. It is an essential stop for understanding the relationship between water, karst geology and landscape in central Sardinia.
