Cedrino River
The Cedrino River flows through the landscapes of the Nuoro area and is one of eastern Sardinia’s most important waterways. It also appears in Sardinian literature, including Grazia Deledda’s Canne al vento. Rising in the Gennargentu area, the river travels for around 80 kilometres before reaching the sea near Orosei, linking mountain scenery, canyons and wetlands along the way.
Exploring the Cedrino River
The Cedrino offers a different way to experience the natural landscapes of Sardinia. Historically known as the Rio Boloriga, it winds through the Supramonte area and reaches places that are easiest to appreciate from the water.
Kayaking on the Cedrino
Kayaking makes it possible to explore quiet corners that are difficult to reach by road. Along the route, one of the best-known landmarks is the small historic church of San Pantaleo, standing beside the water and restored to preserve its distinctive setting.
Lake Cedrino
The dam built at Pedra ’e Othoni in 1984 transformed part of the river into the artificial Lake Cedrino. Set between Monte Tului and Monte Bardia near Dorgali, the reservoir has become a popular destination for nature activities, kayaking and scenic excursions.
Things to do on the Cedrino
Lake Cedrino is a base for several outdoor activities, from hiking and kayaking to boat trips that reveal the variety of the local ecosystem.
Hiking and trails
Routes of different difficulty levels run around the lake, giving both experienced walkers and families opportunities to enjoy panoramic views, Mediterranean vegetation and birdlife including grey herons.
Boat trips: nature and history
Boat excursions on Lake Cedrino offer views of the dam, Su Guano Cave and the hill of San Pantaleo, where historic churches can be reached from the water. Exploring by boat provides a different perspective on the reservoir and its surrounding landscape.
