Molentargius Park

Molentargius-Saline Regional Natural Park is a major wetland inside the urban area of Cagliari and Quartu Sant’Elena. Lagoons, salt pans and flamingos create an exceptional natural environment only minutes from the city centre and Poetto Beach.

A wetland inside the city

Molentargius shows how closely Cagliari is connected to lagoon environments. In only a few minutes, urban streets give way to water, embankments and nature trails.

Flamingos and birdlife

The park is best known for its pink flamingos, but it also supports many other bird species. Sightings vary with the season and environmental conditions, and wildlife should always be observed quietly and from a respectful distance.

Salt pans and history

Salt production shaped this landscape for centuries. Evaporation ponds, channels and historic infrastructure reveal the close relationship between human activity and the natural environment.

Walking and cycling

Several routes allow visitors to explore the park on foot or by bicycle. Stay on authorised paths and check for any seasonal restrictions before entering sensitive areas.

Poetto and Sella del Diavolo

Molentargius combines naturally with Poetto Beach and Sella del Diavolo. In the Trip Planner, this is one of the best combinations for a day focused on the natural side of Cagliari.
