Su Mannau Cave
Su Mannau is a large karst cave in the territory of Fluminimaggiore, not far from the Temple of Antas. Two underground streams have carved a system around eight kilometres long, part of which is equipped for guided visits.
The karst system
The cave is divided into two major branches associated with the underground Placido and Rapido rivers. Chambers, shafts and galleries reveal the complexity of the system.
Formations and underground lakes
Stalactites, stalagmites, columns, aragonite crystals and underground lakes are among the most spectacular features of the visit.
Archaeology
Finds inside the cave suggest ancient ritual use. Its proximity to the Temple of Antas makes the relationship between the cave and the wider sacred landscape especially interesting.
The visit
The tourist section is visited with accompaniment according to seasonal schedules. Cool temperatures and high humidity inside the cave make suitable clothing and footwear important.
In the Trip Planner
Su Mannau can be combined with Fluminimaggiore or Antas. It is a major attraction and should not be squeezed into the same day as several other cave visits.
