Garibaldi Compendium on Caprera
The Garibaldi Compendium preserves Giuseppe Garibaldi’s home, work spaces, personal belongings and tomb on Caprera. It is one of the most important historical sites in La Maddalena Archipelago and offers an intimate view of the final decades of the life of one of Italy’s best-known historical figures.
The White House
Garibaldi built his main residence on Caprera in the second half of the 19th century. The rooms preserve furniture, objects and memorabilia connected with both his private life and political career.
The farm
The complex also includes agricultural buildings and work areas. Garibaldi organised a functioning farm on the island with vegetable gardens, animals, orchards and spaces dedicated to everyday labour.
Garibaldi’s tomb
Garibaldi’s large granite tomb stands in the small family cemetery together with the graves of several relatives.
Caprera beyond the beaches
The site adds an essential historical dimension to an island better known for beaches and nature. It is ideal for balancing time at Cala Coticcio or on the trails with a substantial cultural visit.
