Cala Coticcio: Caprera’s famous “Tahiti”

Cala Coticcio, often nicknamed “Tahiti”, is one of the most famous coves in the La Maddalena Archipelago. Located on the north-eastern side of Caprera, it combines pale sand, turquoise water and granite rocks in a highly protected natural setting.

A protected natural paradise

Unspoilt scenery

The cove is characterised by very fine pale sand, transparent turquoise water, pink-grey granite rocks and Mediterranean vegetation. Because it lies within a protected area, access is regulated and visitors must follow the rules in force at the time of their visit.

Getting to Cala Coticcio

Cala Coticcio can be reached by sea on authorised excursions or by land along a hiking route across Caprera. The trail requires suitable footwear and a reasonable level of fitness, and access rules may require booking or an authorised guide depending on current regulations.

Snorkelling

The clear water and rocky seabed make Cala Coticcio attractive for snorkelling when sea conditions are calm. Respecting the protected marine environment is essential.

Exploring Caprera

A visit can be combined with other parts of Caprera, including Cala Portese, Spiaggia del Relitto, Cala Napoletana, Cala Garibaldi and Cala Serena. The island also has strong historical links with Giuseppe Garibaldi, whose former residence is now part of a museum complex.

Why visit Cala Coticcio

Cala Coticcio stands out for its extraordinary natural setting and the experience of reaching a protected cove on Caprera. It is especially rewarding for travellers who enjoy hiking, clear water and wild coastal scenery.
