Pedres Castle

Pedres Castle stands on a small hill south of Olbia and overlooks the surrounding plain. The medieval ruins are reached by a short climb and lie close to the Su Monte ’e S’Abe Giants’ Tomb, making the two sites easy to visit together.

The medieval fortress

Sections of wall and a tower survive, showing the strategic role of this hill in controlling the surrounding territory during the Middle Ages.

The climb

A path leads to the summit. The route is relatively short but includes uneven sections, so suitable footwear is recommended.

The panorama

From the top, views extend across the Olbia plain and surrounding hills. The landscape makes it easy to understand why the site was strategically important.

Su Monte ’e S’Abe

A large Giants’ Tomb stands at the foot of the hill. The two sites belong to very different periods but work well as a single historical stop.

Olbia beyond the beaches

Pedres reveals a historical side of the Olbia area that is often overlooked. In the Trip Planner it is a useful option for travellers interested in history and archaeology, especially when they want to alternate coast and culture.
