Funtanamare: the wild beach of Gonnesa
Funtanamare forms the northern section of the Marina di Gonnesa, along the wild south-western coast of Sardinia. Its broad beach and open-sea setting make it especially appealing to travellers who enjoy nature, wind sports and less developed coastal landscapes.
A wide beach between sand and sea
Funtanamare extends for around three kilometres along the scenic Golfo del Leone, with fine golden sand and clear sea that can shift from emerald green to deep blue. Fossil dunes and Mediterranean vegetation frame parts of the coastline.
A favourite with surfers
Because of its exposure to wind and swell, Funtanamare is well known for windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing. Conditions vary considerably, so both sports users and swimmers should check the sea before entering.
