Porto Pollo
Porto Pollo is one of Gallura’s best-known beaches for wind sports. A narrow strip of sand links the mainland to Isuledda, also known as Isola dei Gabbiani, creating two sides of coastline that often have different sea and wind conditions.
A beach shaped by the wind
Porto Pollo is exposed to the winds of the Strait of Bonifacio, a feature that has made it an international destination for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing. The landscape and sea conditions can change noticeably depending on the wind.
Isuledda, or Isola dei Gabbiani
The sandy isthmus connects the mainland to the small Isuledda peninsula. The two sides can experience different conditions, with one side often more sheltered than the other depending on the day.
Water sports
Specialist schools and centres make Porto Pollo suitable both for experienced athletes and for beginners who want to try windsurfing or kitesurfing. Designated activity zones should always be respected for the safety of swimmers and sports users.
Palau and Roccia dell’Orso
Porto Pollo lies within the municipality of Palau and can easily be combined with Roccia dell’Orso and the town centre. It works particularly well for a day that mixes beach time with one of northern Gallura’s most recognisable landscapes.
When to go
Summer offers the widest range of services, but the wind also makes Porto Pollo attractive in spring and autumn. Travellers mainly looking for calm water should check the forecast before choosing it over more sheltered beaches nearby.
