Cala Petra Ruja: a natural bay on the Costa Smeralda
Cala Petra Ruja is one of the scenic beaches of the Costa Smeralda in north-eastern Sardinia. Pale sand, clear water, reddish granite and Mediterranean vegetation create a natural setting close to some of the coast’s best-known resorts.
A scenic natural landscape
The beach and sea
Cala Petra Ruja sits in a crescent-shaped bay with roughly 250 metres of pale sand. The water ranges from light blue to turquoise and green, contrasting with reddish granite rocks and pebbles.
Mediterranean vegetation
Junipers, helichrysum and other coastal plants surround the bay, while the islands of Mortorio and Soffi can be seen offshore.
Activities and nearby coves
Swimming and snorkelling
The relatively shallow seabed in parts of the bay makes Cala Petra Ruja suitable for families, while clear water and rocky areas can be good for snorkelling in calm conditions.
Explore nearby
South of the beach, smaller coves continue towards Razza di Giunco, while the larger Liscia Ruja beach lies nearby. Together they form a varied stretch of the Costa Smeralda coastline.
