La Prisgiona Nuragic Complex

La Prisgiona is one of Gallura’s most important Nuragic complexes, set in the Capichera valley just a few kilometres from Arzachena and the Costa Smeralda.

A major Nuragic fortress

The complex is centred on a nuraghe consisting of a main tower and two side towers linked by a bastion. Its commanding position and scale show the importance of the site in controlling the territory and organising Nuragic communities in Gallura.

The village of La Prisgiona

A large settlement once spread around the fortress, with numerous huts and spaces used for different activities. Excavations have revealed evidence of food storage, craft production and other forms of work, providing a detailed picture of everyday life in the community.

The Capichera valley

The site sits in a landscape of granite, Mediterranean scrub and vineyards. This setting makes La Prisgiona especially rewarding because archaeology and the Gallura landscape can be experienced together, only a short drive from the Costa Smeralda’s tourist resorts.

What to see nearby

Arzachena’s archaeological network also includes Coddu Vecchju, Li Muri, Li Lolghi, Albucciu and the Malchittu temple. Travellers dedicating a day to archaeology can therefore build an itinerary across sites from different periods and with different functions.
