Cala del Morto

Cala del Morto: a small cove in Chia

Despite its unusual name, Cala del Morto is a beautiful small cove set between rocky headlands along the Chia coastline in southern Sardinia. Its sheltered setting and compact size make it one of the most distinctive beaches in the area.

A scenic sheltered bay

The natural setting

Framed by rocky slopes and pink granite, Cala del Morto has fine golden sand and transparent water that ranges from light blue to emerald green. Its sheltered position gives the cove an intimate feel.

Snorkelling

The shallow sandy seabed and rocky edges can be good for snorkelling in calm conditions. The cove is reached on foot from the Porto Campana area along paths through Mediterranean vegetation.

No services, plenty of atmosphere

A natural beach

Cala del Morto has very limited or no direct beach services, which helps preserve its more natural character. Bring water and anything else you need for your visit.

Explore the surrounding coast

Nearby beaches such as Monte Cogoni and Campana Dune offer additional services and can be combined with a visit to Cala del Morto without travelling far.

Between history and nature

Chia’s historical landscape

Cala del Morto lies in an area rich in history, close to the archaeological remains associated with ancient Bithia. The nearby Chia tower, built in the 16th century, adds another cultural landmark to the coastline.

A varied coastline

Chia is known for a succession of beaches with different landscapes, from the dunes of Campana to Su Giudeu and its small offshore islet. This variety makes the area easy to explore over more than one day.

Why visit Cala del Morto

Cala del Morto is a small scenic cove on the Chia coast and a rewarding stop for travellers exploring southern Sardinia, particularly if you prefer quieter beaches and natural surroundings.
