Town

Villacidro

Villacidro lies at the foot of Monte Linas and is one of the main gateways to the mountain landscapes and waterfalls of south-west Sardinia.

Villacidro town centre

The town stands where the Campidano plain meets the first slopes of the Linas massif. Its centre has churches, historic neighbourhoods and useful services, but Villacidro’s defining feature is its immediate connection with valleys, woodland and streams just beyond the built-up area.

Sa Spendula

Sa Spendula waterfall is one of Villacidro’s best-known natural landmarks. The Coxinas stream drops in several stages between granite walls and vegetation, creating an especially striking setting when water levels are high. The site is easy to combine with the town centre and offers a first introduction to the Monte Linas landscape.

Monte Linas and Montimannu

The mountain area offers trails, woodland and other waterfalls, including Piscina Irgas and Muru Mannu, across the wider Linas massif. Montimannu Forest is one of the most rewarding areas for hiking and nature, with routes requiring different levels of preparation depending on the destination.

Culture and museums

Villacidro is also closely associated with the writer Giuseppe Dessì. Its cultural heritage includes the Villa Leni archaeological museum and other spaces devoted to local history. These stops make it easy to combine outdoor activities with cultural visits.

When to visit

Spring and autumn are particularly suitable for hiking and waterfalls, while summer makes it easy to combine Villacidro with the Costa Verde and other destinations in the Medio Campidano area. Before tackling more demanding hikes, always check trail conditions and accessibility.
