Sa Spendula
Sa Spendula is Villacidro's best-known waterfall and one of the signature natural sights of the Monte Linas area, reachable in a short time from the town.
The waterfall
The Rio Coxinas descends through granite rock and vegetation in a sequence of drops. The final fall is the most dramatic, ending in a narrow gorge and creating the landscape that has made Sa Spendula a natural symbol of Villacidro.
When to visit
Water flow changes considerably during the year. After rainy periods and in the cooler seasons, the waterfall is generally at its most impressive, while flow can diminish during dry months. Check recent weather conditions before planning your visit.
Trails and natural surroundings
The area forms part of the Monte Linas mountain system and offers short walks through Mediterranean vegetation and granite scenery. More demanding routes also leave from the Villacidro area towards Montimannu, Piscina Irgas and other mountain locations, suitable for properly prepared hikers.
Sa Spendula and Villacidro
Its proximity to town makes the waterfall easy to combine with Villacidro, local museums and places associated with writer Giuseppe Dessì. It is a useful starting point for exploring the natural side of the Medio Campidano area.
Visiting tips
Rocks can be slippery, especially after rain. Stay on accessible paths, wear suitable footwear and keep away from waterfall edges or fast-flowing water when conditions are unsafe.
