Perdasdefogu

Located in southern Ogliastra at around 500 metres above sea level, Perdasdefogu is an appealing destination for nature lovers and outdoor activities. Perdasdefogu is also part of one of Sardinia's Blue Zone areas, renowned for exceptionally high levels of longevity.

Things to see in Perdasdefogu

The territory of Perdasdefogu is rich in natural attractions. The protected Bruncu Santoru Park, for example, combines Mediterranean scrub and holm-oak woodland that provide habitat for the Sardinian deer. Its geological and botanical diversity has attracted researchers and universities from Italy and abroad. Birdwatching and hiking are among the best ways to explore this landscape.
Of the many caves in the area, Is Angurtidorgius is one of the most remarkable: a karst system extending for more than 11 kilometres and attracting speleologists from across Europe.
Numerous streams cross the territory and can form impressive seasonal waterfalls, including Luesu.

History and archaeology of Perdasdefogu

Archaeological evidence shows human settlement in the area from pre-nuragic times. Four Domus de Janas date to the Late Neolithic period: three form a small necropolis at Baccu Olia, while a fourth lies separately at Orruinas. Nuragic civilisation also left many important traces, including the Monte S'Orku 'e Tueri nuraghe, Su Perduxeddu and the Giants' Tombs of S'Abba 'e Ferru and Su Filissiu.
