Town

Carloforte

Carloforte is the only town on San Pietro Island, in the Sulcis area. It preserves a strong Tabarkine identity expressed through language, food and traditions closely linked to the sea.

The town of Carloforte

The town develops around the harbour, with colourful houses, narrow carruggi lanes and small squares that reflect its historic connection with Liguria. Walking through the centre reveals fortifications, sea views and an atmosphere unlike any other Sardinian town.

Tabarkine culture

The community descends from Ligurian settlers who came from Tabarka and still preserves distinctive cultural traditions. Food is one of the most interesting aspects, combining Ligurian, North African and Sardinian influences with a particularly strong tradition centred on tuna.

San Pietro Island

Beyond the town, the island opens into a landscape of cliffs, coves, salt pans and wide Mediterranean views. Carloforte is the natural starting point for exploring San Pietro, reached by ferry from the Sulcis coast and well suited to a stay of several days.
