San Pietro Island

Wild Coastline and Sea Experiences

San Pietro Island, off the Sulcis coast, combines dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and clear water. The coastline is popular for diving, snorkelling and other marine activities.

Capo Sandalo and Italy’s westernmost lighthouse

On the western side, Capo Sandalo offers sweeping views around its 19th-century lighthouse, often described as the westernmost lighthouse in Italy. The exposed coast is especially scenic at sunset.

Wild nature and island habitats

The island’s interior is scented with rosemary and strawberry tree, while steep cliffs provide habitat for seabirds and raptors. Cala Fico is associated with Eleonora’s falcon, and La Conca is framed by the sea stacks known as Le Colonne.

Carloforte: a distinctive culture

Carloforte, the island’s only town, preserves a unique blend of Ligurian, Tabarchine and Sardinian influences. Its language, food and traditions reflect the history of settlers who arrived in the 18th century after generations connected with Tabarka in North Africa.
