Life in Sardegna

Town

Cardedu

The relatively recent history of Cardedu, one of the youngest towns in Ogliastra, is closely linked to the devastating flood that destroyed much of old Gairo in 1951. Many residents left the damaged village and moved towards the coast, where Cardedu later developed. Its territory, ranging from plains to uplands, has a varied natural landscape of Mediterranean vegetation, old woodland, beautiful natural pools and clear streams. Cardedu is also popular with windsurfers, thanks to the strong sirocco winds that can sweep the coast.

Beaches in Cardedu

The coastline alternates sandy beaches with red porphyry cliffs and unspoilt pebble coves, creating a varied landscape where crystal-clear water meets pale seabeds. Among the best-known beaches are Foddini, Museddu and the scenic cliffs of Perdepera.

Things to see in Cardedu

The area also has important archaeological sites, especially the Domus de Janas of Monte Arista, a fascinating necropolis surrounded by vegetation. The nuraghi of Musciu, Trunconi and Genna Masoni are also worth exploring.

Events in Cardedu

One of the town's liveliest events is the summer carnival, held in August along the Museddu seafront. Traditional masks, local costumes and parade floats are joined by live music and fireworks over the sea.
