Tacchi d’Ogliastra
The Tacchi d’Ogliastra are distinctive limestone and dolomitic plateaus whose profiles resemble the heel of a shoe. Several rise across Ogliastra, with Perda Liana near Gairo the most famous landmark. Around these ridges lies a rugged landscape of forests, scrub and high ground that feels very different from the coast. Native vegetation and traditional pastoral land use are central to the character of the area.
Nuragic archaeology in the Tacchi d’Ogliastra
The Tacchi dell’Ogliastra and surrounding valleys also preserve numerous nuraghi and Nuragic settlements. Among the best known are Serbissi, Sanu, Mela and Pranu, making the area interesting not only for hiking but also for archaeology.
