Palmavera Nuragic Complex
Palmavera is one of the most important Nuragic complexes in north-west Sardinia, located in the territory of Alghero along the road towards Porto Conte and Capo Caccia.
The Nuragic complex
Palmavera consists of a central structure with two towers, defensive elements and the remains of a large village. The site shows several construction phases and helps explain how a Nuragic settlement could develop over time.
The village
Numerous huts are visible around the nuraghe, although the original settlement was much larger. One of the most important buildings is the large meeting hut, probably used for collective and political functions within the community.
A site close to the sea
Palmavera lies only a short distance from the Alghero coast and Porto Conte Park. This makes it easy to combine the archaeological visit with Capo Caccia, Neptune’s Caves or nearby beaches.
Why visit Palmavera
The site is particularly suitable for travellers discovering Nuragic civilisation for the first time. Its towers and village clearly show the difference between an isolated nuraghe and a more complex organised settlement.
Practical information
Check official channels for current opening hours, tickets and guided tours before visiting. The site is outdoors, so water, a hat and sun protection are useful in summer.
