Nuraghe Losa

Nuraghe Losa, in the territory of Abbasanta, is one of Sardinia’s most important and best-preserved Nuragic monuments. Built from basalt, it dominates the plateau and provides an excellent opportunity to explore the sophistication of Bronze Age architecture at close range.

A major Nuragic complex

The main monument is a complex nuraghe with a central tower and a three-lobed bastion built from large basalt blocks. Interior rooms, corridors and stairways reveal the high level of technical skill achieved by Nuragic communities.

The village and surrounding area

Remains of huts and other structures extend around the nuraghe and belong to different phases of occupation. The area continued to be used after the Nuragic period, giving archaeologists a long sequence of evidence from later eras as well.

Why visit Nuraghe Losa

Its excellent state of preservation and clear layout make Losa especially suitable for first-time visitors interested in Nuragic civilisation. The route helps explain how the central tower, bastion and settlement functioned together.

Abbasanta and central Sardinia

Its position close to major roads makes Nuraghe Losa easy to include in a central Sardinia itinerary. It can be combined with other archaeological sites in the Oristano and Guilcier areas.
