Santa Sabina Complex

The Santa Sabina complex, in the territory of Silanus, brings together a nuraghe, funerary and sacred remains, and a distinctive medieval church in the same landscape. The close proximity of monuments from very different periods makes the site especially atmospheric.

The nuraghe

The Nuragic tower dominates the area and is the oldest immediately visible monument. Built in stone, it stands within the pasture and rolling landscape of the Marghine.

The church of Santa Sabina

A small medieval church stands only a few metres from the nuraghe. Built with alternating dark and pale stone, its unusual form creates one of the area’s most recognisable scenes beside the prehistoric monument.

The archaeological landscape

Further remains around the site include funerary monuments and structures associated with water worship. Santa Sabina is best understood as a wider archaeological landscape rather than as a single isolated monument.

Silanus and the Marghine

The village and surrounding territory preserve other historical and natural attractions that can be combined with Santa Sabina with only short transfers.

In the Trip Planner

Santa Sabina is a strong itinerary stop because it combines archaeology and medieval architecture. It can fit into a Marghine day with Macomer or one other main visit without making the schedule too crowded.
