Capo Figari and Figarolo

Capo Figari is the dramatic headland rising above Golfo Aranci, facing the island of Figarolo and the waters of north-eastern Sardinia. Cliffs, hiking trails, small coves and an important history linked to radio communications make this area much more than a scenic viewpoint.

The headland

Capo Figari rises steeply behind Golfo Aranci and offers wide views across the coast and nearby islands. The landscape alternates Mediterranean scrub, rocky cliffs and stretches of shoreline that can only be reached by sea or along hiking routes.

Figarolo Island

Just off the headland lies Figarolo, a small limestone island surrounded by clear sea. The surrounding waters are popular for boat trips, snorkelling and coastal cruising. Marine wildlife is one of the area’s attractions, although sightings can never be guaranteed.

Marconi and the history of radio

Capo Figari is also associated with Guglielmo Marconi’s experiments in radio communication. Historic structures on the summit add a cultural dimension to a place otherwise best known for its landscapes and natural environment.

Hiking and access

The trails require suitable footwear, plenty of water and attention to the heat. Several sections have little or no shade, so the middle of the day is best avoided in summer. Check current conditions and access before setting out on longer hikes.

Golfo Aranci and Cala Moresca

Capo Figari is one of the main natural attractions to combine with a stay in Golfo Aranci. Cala Moresca and the headland make it possible to plan a balanced day of sea and hiking without long drives, which also makes this area particularly useful in the Trip Planner.
