Punta Rossa Battery
Punta Rossa Battery is a complex of military fortifications in the southern part of Caprera. Set among granite rock and Mediterranean scrub, the structures reflect the strategic role of the La Maddalena Archipelago in maritime defence.
The fortifications
Batteries, gun platforms and service buildings were constructed to control the sea and approaches to the archipelago. Today, their remains form part of Caprera's historic landscape.
Punta Rossa
The southern part of the island is less developed and offers wide views of the sea and surrounding islands.
Military history
Caprera and La Maddalena contain numerous defensive works built in different periods. Punta Rossa reveals a side of the archipelago's history that is often less familiar than its links with Garibaldi.
Nature and trails
The site lies within a protected natural setting. Follow marked routes and access restrictions, and take care around old structures, some of which are not suitable for unrestricted exploration.
In the Trip Planner
Punta Rossa is best suited to travellers interested in both history and nature and should be included in a day already focused on Caprera.
