Scivu

Scivu is one of the great beaches of the Costa Verde, in the municipality of Arbus. A long stretch of golden sand, dunes and hills covered in Mediterranean scrub create one of the wildest and most distinctive landscapes on Sardinia’s western coast.

A long beach on the Costa Verde

Scivu extends for several kilometres along an open, sparsely developed stretch of coastline. Its sense of space is one of its defining features: sand, sea and hills dominate the landscape almost completely.

Sand and dunes

The beach is also known for the unusual sound its sand can produce under certain conditions. Dunes and coastal vegetation lie behind the shore; these are fragile environments and should only be crossed using designated paths.

Open sea and swimming conditions

Sardinia’s west coast is exposed to wind and swell. Scivu can experience strong waves and currents, so always assess sea conditions carefully before swimming and follow any local safety advice.

A wild, sparsely developed setting

Part of Scivu’s appeal is the absence of large built-up areas directly behind the beach. Services and mobile coverage can be more limited than in major tourist resorts, so arrive prepared and always take your waste away with you.

Scivu, Piscinas and Montevecchio

Scivu can be included in a Costa Verde itinerary together with the Dunes of Piscinas and the former mining complex of Montevecchio. It is better to spread these stops across at least two days, as the roads and landscapes reward a slower pace.
