Talana
Talana, around 700 metres above sea level, lies in a striking natural setting where rockrose, mastic trees, strawberry trees and cork oaks cover the spectacular mountain rocks that seem to embrace and protect the village. Its sweeping landscapes and far-reaching views are among the main reasons to visit. Like other mountain villages in Ogliastra, Talana is part of Sardinia's Blue Zone, an area renowned worldwide for the longevity of its inhabitants.
Things to see in Talana
Scattered through unspoilt woodland and across a plateau rising to around 1,050 metres, the territory of Talana contains about 70 nuragic settlements as well as several Giants' Tombs and Domus de Janas. The Bau 'e Tanca nuragic complex is particularly distinctive for the unusual symmetry of the different clusters that make up the village.
Nature lovers and hikers should not miss Funtana 'e Filigi, an ideal place for a summer picnic, where holm-oak woods and numerous clear-water springs surround the secluded country church of San Giuseppe.
Events in Talana
One of Talana's signature events is the festival dedicated to its renowned cured ham. Alongside tastings of this local speciality, visitors can explore exhibitions set inside old houses in the historic centre and photographic displays, while Sardinian music and traditional dancing bring the village streets to life.
