Town
Castelsardo
Castelsardo is a medieval village overlooking the Gulf of Asinara, instantly recognisable for its castle, tightly packed houses on the headland and sweeping sea views.
The village and castle
The oldest part of Castelsardo developed around Doria Castle. Climbing through narrow lanes, stairways and stone houses leads to panoramic terraces and the Museum of Mediterranean Weaving, dedicated to one of the area’s most deeply rooted craft traditions.
Things to see
Among the town’s most distinctive buildings is the Cathedral of Sant’Antonio Abate, built on the headland and recognisable by its bell tower topped with a majolica-tiled dome. The historic centre is best explored slowly, among workshops, small squares and glimpses of the sea.
Around Castelsardo
Castelsardo is a strategic stop along Sardinia’s northern coast. Nearby are beaches, the landscapes of Anglona and natural landmarks such as the Elephant Rock. It is an appealing destination in every season, not only in summer.
