Nuraghe Santu Antine

Santu Antine, in the countryside near Torralba, is one of Sardinia's most monumental nuraghi and the main landmark of the area known as the Valley of the Nuraghi in Meilogu.

The 'House of the King'

The complex is also known as Sa Domu de su Re, a name that reflects its imposing scale. The central tower is surrounded by a three-lobed bastion and an intricate system of corridors, staircases and stacked chambers, demonstrating the technical sophistication of Nuragic architecture.

Architecture and construction

The walls are built from large basalt blocks laid without mortar. The central tower still reaches a remarkable height and was originally taller. Walking through the internal corridors reveals how the builders distributed weight and created multiple levels of interior space.

The village and later phases

Outside the nuraghe are remains of huts and structures used in different periods. The area continued to be inhabited in Roman times, showing that the site retained an important role long after the Nuragic period.

The Valley of the Nuraghi

The landscape around Torralba contains an exceptional concentration of prehistoric monuments. Santu Antine is the main highlight, but it can be part of a wider Meilogu itinerary including other nuraghi, Giants' Tombs and the local museum.
