Li Muri Necropolis

Li Muri Necropolis is one of Gallura’s most important prehistoric sites. Its stone-circle tombs date to the Late Neolithic, centuries before Nuragic civilisation, helping make the Arzachena area one of Sardinia’s richest archaeological landscapes.

The stone-circle tombs

The site consists of burials enclosed by rings of stones and small mounds. Their form is very different from nuraghi and Giants’ Tombs, offering a broader view of Sardinian prehistory.

The Arzachena culture

Li Muri is associated with a specific cultural phase of Neolithic Gallura. Finds from the necropolis reveal complex funerary traditions and contacts with other communities.

The landscape

The necropolis lies in a rural setting of granite and Mediterranean vegetation. The surroundings help explain the relationship between prehistoric monuments and the territory in which they were built.

Other archaeological sites nearby

La Prisgiona, Coddu Vecchju and Li Lolghi are all in the same municipality, making it possible to build a substantial archaeological itinerary around Arzachena.

In the Trip Planner

Li Muri should be prioritised for travellers interested in history and archaeology, ideally together with one or two nearby sites rather than an excessive sequence of monuments in a single day.
