Montevecchio Mine
Montevecchio is one of the great mining landscapes of south-west Sardinia: a network of buildings, industrial sites and settlements that tells more than a century of extraction history.
A major mining complex
Mining at Montevecchio expanded during the 19th century and transformed this part of the Medio Campidano. Housing, workshops, service buildings and administrative structures grew around the industrial sites, creating an urban system built around the mine.
The Management Building
One of the most representative buildings is the Palazzo della Direzione, a symbol of the hierarchy and wealth of the mining complex. Its interiors and decoration highlight the contrast between management spaces and the much harder working conditions experienced by miners.
Mining sites and industrial archaeology
Shafts, ore-washing plants, machinery and infrastructure reveal the different technological phases of mining activity. Guided visits help explain how the extraction system worked and the social and economic impact it had on the area.
Between Guspini, Arbus and the Costa Verde
Montevecchio lies in a landscape of high scenic value close to Guspini and Arbus and not far from the Costa Verde. The contrast between abandoned industrial structures, hills and Mediterranean scrub is one of the defining features of the visit.
